Post subject:  Tandem Islander - Mast Failure

My mast on my Islander Tandem failed (bent below the furling cup). There are fractures in the one side of the lower post. I'm looking at inserting an aluminum sleeve(round pipe) I micro'd the inner diamater of the mast at 1 7/8" or 54 mm.
Has anyone encountered this problem and can recommend a fix please. Thanx

I experienced a full fracture on my 2013 mast. This occurred in June, 2023. The mast fractured a few inches above the spool. A big gust and it snapped. We tried to find a replacement part but
No replacements being available, we opted to attempt a fix. A two foot wooden insert was made by the Barnstable Bat Co, Barnstable, Ma. Access to a good lathe is key. Hats off to this guy. The insert was epoxied in and epoxy cloth to encase the repair.
The mast length was maintained by customizing the insert to account for the two inch loss after removing the splintered ends.
We’ve sailed it for a season and a half now and it is holding up fine. No wobble or loosening of the repair has occurred. The fiberglass cloth has cracked circumflexly, but the repair is solid.
