I like to fish 5 to 10 miles from my launch site. Frustrated by the distance limitation of electric motors I engineered a custom aluminum transom mount along with stick steering, gear shift, and throttle that allow me to sit comfortably in the seat. When I get to my destination, I can then insert the mirage drive or pole my Pro Angler 14 enjoying the stealthy fishing it provides. Top speed is 12 MPH, but at 3/4 throttle cruises at 9-10 MPH. BTW, the motor weights 53 pounds which is significantly less than an electric trolling motor and deep cell battery. Here is link to video to give you an idea of how it performs.

Interesting. I don't think I've ever seen the nose of a PA 14 completely out of the water.

In some states like Texas adding a gas powered engine to a vessel requires a type IV throwable device (in addition to having the PFD) along with a fire extinguisher to be carried on board the vessel. And course adding a motor requires the vessel to be registered with the state (at least in Texas).

The kayak is registered. As far as the other issues you mentioned, I will cross those bridges as needed.

What did the motor and brackets cost you if you don't mind me asking?
I have a 55# trolling motor installed on mine which is fine in Tampa Bay but when I go to the Gulf of Mexico or Atlantic side, or the Keys I'd like to be able to go a couple miles further out than I can with the electric and get there faster

Can you please share how you rigged and what parts you used for the stick steering and to tilt lift/lower the motor? I have been looking into something similar. Thanks
