Post subject:  Steering Handle on the 2011 PA

I just took delivery on a 2011 PA. My question, I have the new steering handle however, the end of the handle has a pre-set bolt for some type of screw or additional piece which was not in the package or instructions... Help?

I took out the new PA. I really enjoyed the boat. The steering to me is very sensitive; you barely need to move the steering handle at all to make a correction. Which, coming from a foot controlled rudder is way different and I will need some time to get use to. Keeping it on heading for me was difficult at first. I'm not sure if there is any way to reduce the sensitive or not?

Welcome and congrats on your new purchase, Bassnflash!
As far as I know, you are the first owner with the 2011 steering upgrade to post a question so you may have to wait to hear from one of the board administrators (currently in China until 9-1-10) or call your dealer for answers. As for posting photos, you have to use a host site and then post your pictures through them. It can be a bit confusing but try following the instructions in the FAQ about posting images or you may want to try typing "posting images" in the search section.
Again, congratulations and good luck with the image posting, looking forward to seeing them.

My sailing terms aren't up to snuff yet, but there was talk of people wanting an extension for certain boats, especially the AI, or TI, so that people could be on the opposite side of the tiller and still reach it. The other thing that I'm thinking is that, I've seen pictures of a pre-production Tandem Island with a knob on the end of the lever to aid in gripping it. Maybe there's an accessory knob?

Just my thoughts until the one's that know get back from China.

I see, by the photo's that it limits your rod storage on the port side. Will this be a problem for some?

your right, trade off for a better location is loss of rod storage on one side. still get 3 on other side and 2 in rear holders thats 5, how many does the average person take out?

Well I placed there rods with reels in that location today and it all fit well. However, I did use a 6' for just under the handle.

Did the 2011 come with the accesory to switch the handle to the right side or is that something you have to request/purchase from your dealer?

It is my understanding there is going to be a way to switch to the right side. However, it did not come with it. The handle only came on the left side.

There is a kit being worked on that will be an option / upgrade for older boats and an option on the 2011 to allow right hand steering. This is not yet available, but soon I am told. More details when available.

Thanks Matt!

Is there a knob or handle coming out for the set-screw on the end of the new molded handle?

Matt:

I need some help getting the Optional Knob for my 2011 PA. My Dealer told me just today he was unable to order it from Hobie. He said, "I asked them to ship me one and they will not?" Can you help me out on this one?
Thanks

Nice rig!
What kind of trailer are you using and what supports the boat on the trailer?

Thanks
