Has anyone ever thought about trying this out on the mirage drive puck? If you could find a way to mount it this might be an awesome idea. If you were to go this route you would still have the steering from your rudder. http://www.minnkotamotors.com/products/ ... water.aspx |

I've seen that motor before, it's huge... twice the size of the mirage hole. There really is no way to use the mirage drive hole for a standard type of 30+ thrust trolling motor body. |

Yea I almost figured that thanks for chrushing my dreams. I like your setup just wish I could figure out how I could steer it and lift the motor up out of harms way from the seat. There have been a few times I have had the fins hit while fishing. Also would be nice to get it out of the water before hitting the shore for take out or put in. |

With the motor in the back, you'll hit bottom before you hit the motor. With the PA floating in 12 inches of water the motor skeg does not hit the bottom, the shape of the PA hull makes it work. There is no harm... I don't see reason to deploy or raise the unit since I'm on a trailer. You could easily turn a motor using my setup. I'm using the 18" kayak version trolling motor, and with the shaft that short, I don't have the space up top to add the steering cables and keep the motor from falling through the mount. If I would have bought the standard length shaft, we would not be having many of these discussions because I would have it turning like the Bassyack and still be under $300. |
