Hi all, I had an opportunity to buy a second hand Hobie Kayak Sail for my Pro Angler a couple weeks ago and had an opportunity to try it out last weekend. I have to say, it was fun! I can imagine using this to go or come back from fishing trips to distant water! It's by no means a sailboat, but it functions very well. I can't peddle /paddle that fast! The guy I got it from used it on a Hobie Outback. He said he fealt "tippy" with it, although he really liked the speed and ease of use. We agreed that with the Pro Anglers stability, it should work pretty well. I wasn't disappointed ![]() Just thought I'd share my experience in case anyone was interested... I can't wait to get it out again! God Bless, Doc S God Bless, Doc S |

I've enjoyed sailing mine as well. I can't say you won't tip it over, but it'll take some doing with that sail. On a reach it'll sure roll up a bit, but I doubt it's really over as far as it feels. One thing that's going to surprise you is that the downwind speed isn't very good. Because there is no boom on the bottom of the sail you can't really catch much wind moving on a run. I'm thinking about making up some type of boom, along with a furling device so I can wrap the sail up when not in use without having to take the mast down. Just more chores to add for the "to do" list this winter. |

I thought about making a boom on mine as well, but I want to play with it a bit more first... I saw this on youtube for furling the sail. It looks simple, but effective... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzuizPhw ... re=related On another video, I saw this guy sailing what looks like a revo, with a home made outrigger on one side, so he can troll from the other... Saturday, my son and I went to Calaveras Lake in San Antonio. Here's a pic of my PA with the sail... ![]() Unfortunately, the wind died down when I decided to give'er a whirl and get pictures... My Son was laughing and teasing me, then fell out of his kayak... ![]() God Bless, Doc S |

I have taken a different approach to sailing my PA.............I was/am a little leery about all the pressure of a sail on the mast holder slot and I went with a Windpaddle Sail. It fits in my front hatch and whenever I use it I just hook it to a couple of pad eyes on my mounting boards. I am very satisfied with it. ![]() Here is a link to "Windpaddle Sails".............I got mine really cheap at Amazon. http://www.windpaddle.com/ |
