Decided that we'd move from hand held still cameras to motion cameras for our Winter fishing trips. Picked up one of the Drift 170HD Stealth models and mounted it on a swivel post. Here's a shot I took Saturday on the water. Decided to move the camera just a tad higher, about 12 inches above the top of the sail mast fitting. Overall, we were very impressed. And this is taken at the camera's very lowest possible resolution. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=appOGH_Mdiw |

I have made three different camera mounts for my PA and for me none of them capture videos quite as good as my head mount. My head mount allow the camera to go where ever my eyes go. Some people complain about unsteadiness of a head mount but I actually get better videos from the head mount than when mounted on the yak. It, also, helps that I have a remote to turn my camera on and off and to zoom in and out. But to each their own..................I am a minority about liking the head mounts. You certainly get a great view of the fish! But a head mount doesn't allow you to be in the shot with the fish. So it just depends on what you want in the video. I certainly agree about the remote switch - that's why I decided to move to the Drift camera. |

The Koday playsport has a great remote also, but if you don't use the camera for a while, it turns itself off to save the battery. |

Mythman ......... love your video ........ love the Cajun Music ....... do yu mount it on top of your head, the bill of your cap or the side of your head ...... what Camera do you use ........ I LOVE the Vio Pov ....... little more expensive but you can touch the remote after the action and save the fun part ........ Tom ........ that's why yu uses several cameras and put the action together like the pro's do .......... besides ...... your not the star ..... the fish is ........ all I see in you videos is you and that wonderful engine that you won't share ...... personally I rather see the fish ......... GREAT job Mythman !!!!!! |

So Tom - I was looking at either the Drift 170HD or the GoPro HD Hero2. The Drift is "water resistant" whereas the GoPro is fully submersible to some incredible depth. In getting out through breakers I will take a lot of water over the bow, and have dumped a few times coming back in. Is this a concern for you with the Drift? |

I've posted several videos of fish. Others were/are tests of the new camera. It works well. I'm very happy with it. I can't speak to the waterproofness of the camera - it's said to be fine in a spray or occasional splash, but I'm sure you wouldn't want to dunk it without putting it in the waterproof case they offer. I don't think an occasional wave splash would hurt it, but I've not used it in the surf so I can't really say. |

I have a trained porpoise that pulls my ProAngler. Only problem with the system is that he eats so much menhaden each day I spend all my time acquiring food for him instead of targeting sport fish for myself. Of course if you don't believe this, I don't blame you. |

Another plus is the killer whales hunt seals while you fish so no need to feed them........ |

I never thought about that. And if you could rig a lead pole off the front of the boat, and hang a seal from it about 3 feet in front of the killer whale, you'd almost certainly exceed the PA's designed hull speed. |
