I was curious if anyone uses any other type of cart besides the scupper plug type to transport out of the water and to the truck. I built one that has along removable handle used to push it under the PA while floating. Im not thrilled about putting my yak on its side on a rocky shore or ramp but I know i couldnt reach under the hull and install the plug while its floating. Just wondering if I missed the obvious. This is my first Yak still learning thanks |

I use a "universal" two-wheel cart, similar to the scupper plug type but was originally for my canoe. The platform which the PA rides on folds out like one of those stands you find in hotel rooms to set your suitcase on but has nice foam padding that keeps the yak from slipping. I just set it next to my PA where the scuppers are and lift the bow up and pivot it onto the cart. Reverse the process when you get to the water. The only problem I've had is with deep sand or soft ground that may create enough resistance pulling the kayak off kilter on the cart. I can't remember the brand and I don't think it has any label on it. |

I have the regular Hobie trax 2 cart. I launch in rocky areas most of the time. I drive there in my pickup with bed extender. I pull the yak partway out until the rear scupper holes are beyond the bed extender. Then plug in the cart while the yak is still hanging out the back of the truck. Lower it to the ground with the wheels in place, rig everything, and then wheel the PA out into knee deep water. At that depth I can pull the cart out from below the floating yak. Coming back home is the same drill in reverse. I never have to lift or tip the yak to get the cart in or out of the scupper holes. The bouyancy of the wheels can make it a challenge to line up the cart with the scupper holes if the waves are up. A bigger nuissance with this routine is if I launch in an area with a very gradual bottom gradient, forcing me to walk further out to get to knee deep water. This just delays getting out to fish. It is still a lot easier than tipping the PA on it's side, though. I have too much loose stuff that would spill out. |

Im glad to here the problems you were having were the same I was. Hoping I wasnt that clueless. I posted the cart I built in a post called DIY cart works pretty good. I made a cart that has a ywo piece push bar so I can push it under the cart while it floats close to shore. Thanks for the replys gentlemen... |

I don't have my PA yet, it's on order. But in terms of a cart for it, I was hoping to be able to use a "Wheel-A-Weigh" that I have. It has two carpetted bunks like a larger trailer and then two nylon straps to hold the load on. I use it on my canoes all the time and even on my 12' aluminum fishing boat, all the time too. It's neat because if you remove a couple of cotter pins the wheels fold in for ultimate portability. My PA will likely just stay in my lake at the dock when I am not out playing on it. So I don't foresee yanking it around except for opening and closing of the season. |

I walk my PA out to 10" or so water, point it outbound and stand behind it to lift it high enough to let the wheels fall out and set the yak down to the side. If i have a bad shoreline to deal with I'll go to the trouble of emptying anything I have to to roll it while still in shallow water. Otherwise I just drag it from the water on the sacrificial blocks made for that on the stern. I have lifted it and set it on my igloo cooler to allow stabbing the cart, but I have not found a really elegant solution. |
