Hello all. I purchased a 2012 PA back in jan. From BCO. I love it. Something has me perplexed though at the moment. I keep reading about the scuppers having a black reinforced make on the 2012 models, yet that is just not the case with mine. Is this a defect, or did Hobie just recently start adding this? Kinda bummed and hoping someone could help me out. Thanks! |

I'm not sure when Hobie started the reinforcing on the scupper holes (i.e. the whole 2012 line or just recently.) Just look at the front and rear holes where you would plug a cart in...not the middle ones. If the sides of those scupper holes are "black", then yours has the reinforcements. Are you fishing the big tournament on May 12th? |

I believe Hobie is phasing in scupper reinforcements as a rolling change one model at a time, since the molds have to be pulled out of service for modification. Whereas scupper reinforcement is a nice feature, it is mostly an "insurance" mod to protect the boats from mishandling, not defects. I've had 8 Hobie kayaks over the past 11 years and never had a scupper problem. You shouldn't have any issues with your scuppers either as long as you make sure they are inserted properly before using. ![]() |
