Any PA anglers in Northwestern Ontario? I'll be picking up my new PA in a couple of weeks from Winnipeg. Where do you use your PA and what are you fishing for? I hope I can fly fish from mine. Normally the thick bush all around is problematic, and getting into the reeds can be tough in a bigger boat. With the early spring have you been out already? |

Fly fishing can be frustrating from the PA due to all the "stuff" that the fly line can and will tangle on. Here's a tip I figured out early on... You can easily stand in the PA. Do so, and turn around backwards and fish out of the back of the boat. Fold the seat down and you'll find that the rear frame and seat mesh form a perfect stripping basket. If you're fishing while under way, with the occasional use of the MD and tiller, you may find it easier to strip line off the side of the boat into the water. Less to foul on that way. |

Arcticmermaid, I've found that using a cargo net draped over the mirage drive significantly reduces any snagging. I can also pedal with the net in place! Nearly all of the fishing I do is "on the fly" and this has been the best solution thus far. Hopefully, this copy and paste works, as computers are not my specialty! This is from a thread I posted on March 15th 2010 "Fly line snagging in the PA" just in case this attempt fails. Sorry.... failed! Perhaps a "search" will help you find the thread and there you will see a photo of said solution. Happy PA-ing! GR8 Laker |

That's the one, Augaug, thanks so much for your help! This has worked well for a couple of years now. I also use it to hold down my camping gear on the stern deck during my annual 3 week excursions along the north shore of Lake Superior (along with bungees and anchor line). Looking forward to this years journey! Safe outings to all, GR8 Laker |

Hey thanks you guys. I am a beginner at fly fishing so I'm sure I will snag onto everything! I seem to be good at catching bushes when I practice at my dock at my landing. Even though the bushes are waaaaay back there somewhere. ![]() I see the cargo netting photo. Excellent. A Lake Superior trek. Fun. I've canoed portions. I lived in Marathon for a few years too and thought that was one of the most gorgeous places on the planet. Have fun and be safe. YELLOW PA helps. That's what I ordered too. |
