Post subject:  Scupper carts and warranty

I've heard from owners of "Other Brands" of kayaks that they won't warranty the hull if you use a scupper cart or even a stakeout pole through the scupper. We are planning a 3 day trip on the Suwannee and will have to portage over some rough terrain with fully loaded boats.Am I at risk of cracking the hull and voiding warranty?

Yakkinbob,

I'm not sure as to the details of the warranty coverage but I would guess Hobie's got your back on that one. A couple of things come to mind:

- What kind of cart do you have?
-How far are you portaging?
- I would definitely consider transporting the gear (with the exception of some of the lighter weight stuff) separately. Get creative and find something that takes up little space but would aid in one or two people carrying the gear. Maybe a stretcher!

Good luck and have a blast!

Thanks,we'll have to portage quite a ways. Some of it won't even be cart friendly.I guess the plan is to camp overnight at this point so we'll be able to break it up.i was thinking I'd be the one on the stretcher after this trip, but the idea for hauling some of the heavier gear sounds good.I didn't think Hobie would sell scupper carts if there was issues with cracking the hull.good advice, thanks again.
