Post subject:  Steering loose on PA12 it seems...

I have a new to me 2013 pa12 I just bought a few weeks ago. It seems to me like the rudder steering is loose. I bought another handle for the right side to steer and when the left is straight the right is off about 1/2-3/4" to one side and seems there is a lot of play in it. I also notice when drifting or pedaling in a straight direction I constantly have to adjust the steering to keep in a straight track. Any help would be great guys!!!

Either take it back to your Hobie Dealer or if you are mechanically inclined, remove the back rudder cover and check the steering lines for looseness and re-tighten them.
My 2013 PA-14 Owners Manual has a good detail/ how to adjust on "Rudder Tuning"....page #24....I think both the PA-12 & PA-14 have the same manual.

Hi there,
you will find that it's neccesary to adjust/tighten the steering lines occaisionaly, especially when lines are new as they will stretch a bit.
As said previously, remove the black cover at rear and all will be pretty obvious re loosening line holding screws, then retightening.
I also have a second handle fitted instead of the steering knob.
My handles are about 1/2 off being perfectly centered but don't find it an issue anymore.
Adjusting the steering lines to the same tension will improve the alignment.
When seated, they look a little "out" even when striaght. You will get used to it, or go insane
Check your manual to be sure on the process.
Best regards,
Rod

BTW, the steering/straight line/constantly adjusting thing is normal and has a huge amount of posts with ideas to fix, reasons for and complaints etc.
You are not alone :D
Lots to read on this forum.
Probably the only time they trck straight is when there's no wind or waves.
I still love my PA regardless of this particular issue :)
Cheers,
Rod
