I have owned a Tandem Island for several years and am otherwise very happy with the boat. My other outdooring interests are moving towards camping with a popup camper. The TI is too big and heavy to put atop a popup camper. I also consider the seat fatigue I experience after about two hours out. I sail inland lakes mostly in Colorado and am never far from land. I am considering a Pro Angler 12 and maybe two of them with the Sail Kit. I know they will not sail with anything near the performance of the Island boats since the sail on the Sail Kit is between 1/4 to 1/5 the sail area of the Tandem Island. But the Seat on the PA has gotten my attention. This summer I'm going to try river kayaking in the TI with an experienced guide and may grow to like that too. I'm not much of a fisherman and I know that this is what the PAs are all about. I have a home built equivalent of the Torqueedo and experience with the Mirage Drives. I invite comment on this lunatic idea. |

John: We spend a lot of time in our TI and I agree with nothing else the TI seats get very uncomfortable after a couple hrs. What I did is cut a 1 1/2 inch foam pool matress and put it in a mesh bag under the regular seat. I am now quite comfortable even after many hrs out at sea. I also hear those I-comfort seats Hobie sells are quite comfortable. You will find the TI kayak is way faster and more maneuverable than the pa, plus there is not a lot of difference in the weight ( kayak only). Actually the TI is the fastest kayak that Hobie makes, and has way more storage. We have done quite a few rivers and lakes in Colorado with our TI, and have even done class 2 rapids out there. This is just my opinion of course, but I regard the pa to be the ultimate fishing machine, but have never heard of anyone using it for anything else. Hope this helps Bob |
