Post subject:  Side Scan transducer mounting options for HB or Lowrance???

Hey everyone I am looking for pics and opinions on the best way to mount a side scan transducer on a PA12. I am really leaning toward the HDS 7 bundle and looking for opinions on mounting the larger transducer. I know I can mount the transducer on a side arm but looking for other way of doing so to have a cleaner look.

I was thinking about possibly mounting on the rear grab handle centerline with boat. Any opinions on this as far a disturbance from rudder or cavitation? I would modify a RAM mount and use this for mounting so I can swing up and away when needed. Thanks everyone!

I can't help you with the Lowrance fittings, but I've mounted my HB sidescan transducer where the Lowrance Ready mounts is, underneath the hull. It's permanently mounted there.

Here are some pics of the mount I made to give you some ideas. The material is 3mm aluminium plate and 2mm x 40x40mm aluminium angle. The protective blob of material in front of the transducer is epoxy resin putty.

This one shows the setup from above.

Now fitted to the hull in place of the plastic hull mount supplied by Hobie.

There's no need to make the plate, do the same thing your doing but to the plastic cover. Slightly recess the transducer into the cover from the outside, basically insert the cable and mounting area by cutting the cover than build it up with marine goop both from the outside and inside. Make sure that the transducer beam clears the hull on both sides. The transducer can take a beating so don't worry about damaging it. There is a photo in this forum of what your looking for.

I'm sure the transducer can take a beating. It's the original plate (after being cut) that I thought would cop a hiding.

I also wanted a protective blob in front of the transducer to prevent it being knocked up and out of alignment and to prevent weed catching it. Epoxy won't stick to PE, but there may have been something else I could have used.

Graeme

Use marine goop
layer it on and it will never move

This looks sweet. Do you have any pictures of the plastic plate before you gooped the transducer

look at kdfu.com.au rigged section of posts, revo 13 with retractible transducer for humm 598 sidescan,

has photo.s and parts cost less than $15 , no extra holes or mods to kayak, other than cutting base plate,

would attach photo,s but unsure how to on this forum.

That does indeed look very good.

(Marine goop is not available here in Australia, as far as I know. Lots of good things you have aren't available here … :( )

Nice, but it won't work on a PA14 because the hull design does not have a place to lift the transducer pole through. The scupper from the transducer well for the cable is placed behind and beneath the Vantage seat and is not open at the top of the hull. (The cable comes through a hole on a vertical part of the hull.)

Graeme

I really like the setup, but it requires a machine shop. This is where most of us will fail. A year ago, I just cut out the bottom of the lowrance mount and have had no issues since. Just providing an alternative...
