Post subject:  Trax 2-30 plug in cart
Does anybody know if Hobie improved the spot weld problem in the new Trax 2-30 cart as apposed to the Trax 2 cart.

I believe so but am not 100% certain. I believe early ones had spot/tack welds. I have the Trax 2-30 and purchased within the last month and it is welded all the way around. Also, it came with two 2" PVC spacers to put under the collars for the PA's to prevent the collars from slipping.

I just got the cart and saw the PVC, but there are no instructions as to where I am supposed to put them.
I'm assuming they go on first and then the collars go on top of them?

Yes, that is correct.

I just bought a PA 14 and the same cart and I had the same question. It is actually somewhat hidden on the instructions..........you slip the spacers on then the rests on top of spacers and tighten down!

Hello all. Newbie here. I have a 2013 Hobie Pro Angler12. My heavy duty cart failed and I was able to get a replacement at my Hobie dealer under warranty. The carts weld has not been reinforced like the Trax cart. Does anyone know why? I hope it holds up. Maybe Matt can chime in?

Lots of comments on other threads specific to weld issues.

This was solved some time ago. Welds should be 360 on each.

I just received my cart and no PVC spacers were included. Called Hobie and they say the new carts they have do not need the PVC spacer anymore.

Correct. The welds on the frames/axles are solid and we now have a couple of "spot" weld bumps on each post to keep the collars from slipping... for the heavier boats.

I had my HD cart which I purchased in 2012 break about 6 months ago (welds broke), I took it to the dealer and under warranty they replaced the frame with a current model, the difference in design and welding is like night and day, I no longer have any concerns about my HD cart, thank you Hobie. I'm sure the newest generation is even better.

Thanks for that! Yes over the past year or so they fixed a production problem that had plagued us for a year or two... original ones were solid too... just a period of time they slacked on the welding.

A long while back I modified the original cart by replacing the axle. Original thin walled tube got replaced with 1/2" solid stainless rod, that I tig welded to the frame of the cart. Went with 30cm Wheeleez.

The wheeleez stock twist-lock mechanism quit on me when righting the yak on the beach, so I ended up drilling 1/8" holes for pins with locking rings (a buck at lowes etc).

This setup has been great, takes pretty much any kind of beating. I can right fully loaded yak without fear of anything breaking. I can roll it over rough terrain.

For PA14 owners, I highly suggest using the forward pair of scupper holes. Yak is much more balanced like that.

Push it, instead of pulling.

When my HD cart failed on my PA 12 my hobie dealer replaced it with a cart that had the same tack/spot welds. Not 360 welds. What if this fails again? Will it be still warrantied?
