Bassfriend posted this a while back, but I cannot find "shock" cords with the tabs on the end like the one pictured. Can anybody help me find these or did he likely make it?

Bassfriend posted this a while back, but I cannot find "shock" cords with the tabs on the end like the one pictured. Can anybody help me find these or did he likely make it? Please forgive the photo pirating!

I think the ones you saw were DIY. I made some from my PA. I used nylon webbing to make the tabs and used a lighter to melt the ends of the tab so it wouldn't fray. I doubled the webbing over the elastic cord and sewed the webbing to the elastic cord with power pro braid (#30pound). After the tabs were sewn I used the point of my soldering iron to make the hole in the webbing for the bolt holes. You will need a strong needle and pliers to pull the needle through the webbing and cord. |

I would just have to pick up the shock cord, nylon webbing, and needle in that case. I actually have some spare PP that I could use to sew the two together. Thanks for the advice! |

I also made a set after seeing Bassfriend's post. I did pretty much as Svendawg described but I wasn't sure how long to make them so I sewed the webbing around the shock cord rather tightly and then did an overhand knot on each end of the shock cord so that I can tighten or loosen it as needed. Now finished I find that having the ability to adjust the length to be useful. I don't Know if the others had trouble with installation but I did. When I removed the screws in the handle I found that I could slide the webbing under the back screw and replace the screw OK but when I tried to slide it under the screw with the steering arm I couldn't so I had to remove the handle. When I did that the steering rod flew into the bottom of the boat. It was no big deal to get it back in place but it required 2 people since the person who finds it and pushes it up into the hole can't reach it when it comes through the handle. I find this to be an excellent innovation that keeps the paddle and the staking pole out of the way. I have the same setup on my Tarpon 120 and am used to it. I am going to do the shock cords, but I am going to try an alternate method vs. removing the grab bars and placing them there. I may just add several of the "knobs" and loop the cord in that manner. I can then use the cords for other purposes and have several on hand at any given time. |
