Are there any cheaper alternatives than the keeleze for protecting the bottom of a PA that you have used?

Ive been using Gorilla tape for two seasons now. (I launch at a rough concrete ramp)

I double and triple it up- works great!

I have to touch it up every 4-5 outings, but overall does a great job.

I'm looking for something similar to the keeleze stuff that won't cost $70 a roll. I don't know how those people sleep at night charging that kind of price for plastic tape.

Couldn't find an alternative to the keeleasy. Demand is why they can charge what they do. you need it, they have it. Give a wide roll of gorilla tape a try. Might surprise you

Have you looked at the KeelEazy web site? They offer several alternatives to the 16' strip ranging in price from $4.00 to $25.00.

After speaking with several people at a company called Egromat, I think I have found my alternative. They make a product called Dura-Stripe Supreme that is used for striping floors in industrial settings. I have been told by them that there are several people using this product as hull protection on their kayaks with good success. They gave me excellent customer service, and half off the list price, so I am going to try it out. It is a durable PVC material that comes in 4" wide by 100ft long rolls. I will post some pictures and reviews of the product once it is installed and tested.

I couldn't find the thread, however someone mentioned that they use a flat bicycle tire under the Gorilla tape.

I have a few samples of the keelezy stuff. The only issue I have with it is #1. COST to do it right as I would want more than just the front tip protected. #2 I just cant get the curvature to work right. If I knew it would be a "perfect" fit, I may spend the money on it.

I have got some recent scratches on my hull from sand being on it when I slide it on my roof rack. Was looking at the gorilla tape idea. Where have you guys applied it and does it affect performance since its not reall a smooth surface anymore?

Would linex or a rhino line be too aggressive on the bottom of the kayak. I know it would add some weight and some drag .

The general consensus is that rhino line type products are too rough and cause to much drag and added weight to use on kayaks.

The gorilla tape work great. I was able to launch from a concrete launch with oyster shells and the tape protected. Thanks for the idea and insight
