Ceiling hoist for PA... ANyone using one?

Most I've seen are only rated to 100lbs. Just curious if you're using one what model you chose?

I bought a Harken Hoister system for my Prangler 14. Have used it for two winters now, and it is great. Very high quality hardware, good instructions, and easy installation. Worth every penny. http://www.hoister.com/

Look in their jeep and truck section for higher-capacity systems. I bought a four-point system for a 12' lift (Could have gotten by with a 10' lift but wanted to be sure) with a capacity of 145 pounds. Modanuff for a 100-pound Prangler.

I used a Racor Pro lift off of Amazon for $144.00. I love it and use a hammerdrill with a 1/2" chuck to raise and lower it. I've provided a link where you can see it. Oh yeah, it's rated to 150# I think.

We have a Harkin for our Outback. Love it. It comes in various heights so if your garage is short or tall, they have one to fit. You do need to anchor it to cross beams so it's useful to know what sort of cross beams you have and their direction before mounting. We discovered we had metal beams so had to provide a backing plate for stability and strength. Not your typical wood beam install by any means.

The hoist is only as good as how good you have secured it to the ceiling.

It works similar to you tying your kayak to a roof rack mount system on your car. When the kayak, still tied to the roof rack, comes flying off, you realize that you should have attached it more securely to actual vehicle and not just to the roof rack.

Nothing more disappointing than coming out early one morning and find your kayak and hoist system laying on top of your car.

Using the Harken 200 lb and being able to hoist flush with the ceiling is great.

The Harken system won't drop your 'yak; it will lock the instant you let go of the rope.

I posted some pictures in the past of how I set up the Harken hoist (140#, 4-point) in my garage in a previous post titled "Storage???". There was some discussion in that thread that may help with your question.

Like I said before..... just be sure you have your hoist system securely attached to the ceiling. I don't care which hoist system you are going to use. If it isn't secured properly, everything will come tumbling down....
