Post subject: | New PA 14 owner- Mirage drive question |
Just got my 2014 PA14 and this boat is in a class by itself. Sold my Jackson Cuda 12 to make the move and all I can say is peddles rule! I want to take good care of this kayak so I'm wondering if there are any special considerations for storing the Mirage drive when not in use. Any other tips would be appreciated as well. Thanks! |

There is a detailed FAQ area in the forums here... at the top of the open Kayak forums area: http://www.hobiecat.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=107 Lots of good info about MirageDrive care. |

Thanks, Matt. I've looked through those and they mainly address issues, fixes or lubrication. I guess my question wasn't clear. What I'm wondering is how to store the drive...if it matters. Right now I have it hanging with a strap that keeps both peddles together so the whole thing is fairly flat and unobstrusive. That works for me but I'm always looking for the "better answer" if it's out there. |

Carry spare parts for the drive in a dry bag. Rinse the drive with fresh water after each use. Spray a lubricant on the moving parts. Add to the parts list a 1/4 inch wrench for the nyloc nuts. Eyeball the drive and look for a problem that might come up, loose or broken items. |

Hanging rinsed and then dry works! |

Yup. After rinsing and spraying with lube, I hang mine by a loop of rope around the PEDALS so the fins hang straight. |
