With cost no object for winter wear the dry suit is the most versatile option. Considerably less expensive is a 3mm farmer john wetsuit with booties and a splash jacket over whatever weight of insulating layer you need.
If you are separated from the boat and bobbing around in the water for any period of time anything less than a survival suit and you will not make it. All I want is enough insulation to be able to keep my wits while in the water and get back on the boat, while not having so much that I get wet from the inside out with my perspiration.
Keeping your trunk warm is the important part as when the core body temp drops the circulation to the hands and feet is reduced and they get cold regardless of any footwear or gloves.
If you do go the drysuit route be sure to practice in a pool with the suit full of water as when it is torn. You do not want to figure out how to cope with this possibility in frigid water out on a lake.
