Rumor control has it (@ some fishing tournament) that Hobies looking into designing a reverse to the mirage drive feature like the Native Watercraft system. Is there any truth to this idea/concept? Also just wondering if a new drive such as the one I heard about would fit into a current mirage spacing?

Doubtful it could be easily done, as the concept of fins requires that they be rigid in front and free in the rear. There would have to some way to change or reverse the spines, at which point it's just easier to pull the drive and drop it in reverse.

The forward drive of the PA17T-itanic will come with two idler wheels to facilitate pedaling in the "social" seating position, i.e. pedaling facing the front of the drive. This will not provide reverse thrust however. Maybe this is what you heard about?

The fins don't operate like a prop you can just spin in reverse.

Short of removing & flipping the drive as Tom said you'd need some kind of turntable drive well design to easily spin the drive 180 degrees without removing it, AFAIK. That would require yet another hull redesign which I don't see Hobie doing since they just modified all the 2015 molds for the Vantage CT seat.
