I am outfitting my new 2015 PA14. I was considering mounting my fish finder and some dual rod holders onto universal mounting plates for the H rail. Do the universal mounting plates have enough strength and stability for these items? |

Someone just asked this in the thread i have but wanted to post my response for you as well. What type of fishing do you do? fresh or salt water? Yeah they are pretty sturdy. The knobs that control the tension are the problem. I had one today just fall off while i was out on the water and the old red caps without the brass inserts are the problem and Hobie is already all over that so when you get yours make sure to look it over and see if it needs the replacement knob. The ones that have the scotty mounts are good to go but my others need to be replaced and i am working through my dealer to get those on order. I must say that for trolling i am more confident with just putting my heavy weight rods in the molded rod holders but i do put lighter gear in the scotty mounts while im trolling or catching bait. Biggest thing i will say is leash down your rods and if those happen to fail you know the rod isn't going to far. ![]() Will get better pictures and im going to do a walk around video by next weekend of my setup. working on the back area right now. removing the crate and rigging up a wrap around pvc rod holder to go behind the live well but will make room to put a fishbag in front of it. |

I will be freshwater fishing, BadKarma. Can you describe exactly what I need to look for, or post pics, of a bad knob vs a good knob? Thanks |

ACWKU wrote: Can you describe exactly what I need to look for A very early batch of knobs were over sized causing a reduced amount of thread depth. You can test by tensioning the knob and closing the lever under load. A bad knob would not hold tension. We could not fail knobs here at the factory after initial reports came from the fishing Worlds boats. The brass insert is about an abundance of caution and likely way more than we needed to do. The replacement knobs are offered at no charge through your dealer if you want them. Should be available in the coming weeks. |

Is it just the knobs or the entire part? My local Hobie dealer says its the entire part. I really would just like the knobs. Almost all my knobs have stripped. |

It is just the knobs. I got my 5 to replace the one that came on the yak and the accessories i ordered. They are obviously better knobs. the brass insert should hold up far better. Hobie did the right thing and acted fast on it. now if i could just get the dang rod holders that weren't shipped with the yak! |
