Not a defect.

This is part of the normal molding process. A clump of material forms on the mold vent and drops into the hull. We sometimes grind a bit off if it is rough.

Rather than mess with plastic welding that might turn out to be more problematic, why not lay on a couple of layers of Gorilla tape since this is the inside for the hull.

Ask the warranty guys (via email provided earlier in PM) for a "hatch cut-out". 8" round should work.

It just may be relative... the hulls are not consistent throughout. Many variations and places that would be more or less translucent.
