Has any one modified the larger rudder for the PA it looks like if you trim the most rearward edge it may fit into the hull better and cause less of an issue of hitting the ground when removing it out of the water. Although it is cold and my kayak is all covered was just wondering if anyone has tried this .Also were there any handling issues. |

I installed the larger rudder on my PA-14 exactly one year ago today.....if you trim the larger rudder to "fit and not touch the ground" when tilted up on the end, you now will have a duplicate of the original rudder. ![]() I carry my PA on a Hobie Trailex trailer, modified with 2 7/8" OD schedule 40 PVC parallel pipes and I have no issues launching or recovering with the larger rudder....just make sure it's retracted all the way up. Once on the trailer, I let the rudder hang down so the internal rudder hardware has all the tension removed. |

I installed the larger rudder on my Hobie PA 12 today and there is a half inch clearance from the built in skeg to the end. The larger rudder if installed propely will not touch the ground |
