I would appreciate some input on the performance of the new drive vs the drive on my 2013 Hobie PA. Is it worth an upgrade? |

IMO, not worth the upgrade. Not saying newer version is bad... just not that much of a difference to me. |

Simply less friction, so takes less effort to pedal. Some say 10% more efficient I think. |

I am looking to buy a hobie and have recently had several opportunities to test both outback and Revo 16 on the water, with both old and new drives and with both standard and turbo fins. Never having tried one before, and changing from new drive to old drive to me, the difference was immediately noticeable. Much easy to peddle new drive than old (same standard fins on both units). My son, also testing on the day stated the same impression. In my 'inexperienced' opinion, if I end up buying an earlier model, I will update the bearings etc to the new type. The new drive with turbo fins 'felt' like the best combination. Reasonable speed with sustainable effort. |
