I use a cheap expandable painter's pole and this RAM mount

Ram wedge mount with a Panfish on top of that. Works great! That's a nice spot for other options if you don't put a sail in it.

Here is a compass mount I made, I also have a single pipe with a camera mount and a railblazer port.

$20 Ebay boating compass
15mm pressure pipe
bicycle tube
shock cord
epoxy putty

Bang them all together and you end up with a compass that mounts in the mast plug and cannot fall out.
