Hey all, my first post, I got a 2014 PA 14 back in February, and absolutely love it. I upgraded from a Revo 13 (which is an awesome boat too!)

My wife is not super big into fishing but wants to go out with me and hopefully I can maybe add a PA 17 to the fleet down the road :)

I saw a few posts about how people add a second person. I was going to orignally have her sit and peddle and I would sit in the back on a cooler, but she got a thick yoga mat doubled it up and a put chair in the back storage space, and she seems to like it.

I know I've seen guys stand on a cooler and use a push pole from the back, but I was curious about adding the chair.

Anybody have any experience doing this? My wife is really excited to go out and I want to make sure she has a good time and also that I don't do any damage to my boat.

It's really not a boat for two adults. Not saying you can't do it, but I'd suspect the opportunity for a capsize or man overboard will be reasonably good.

Not to sound offensive, but I think it would depend on the size and weight of your wife as well as the type of chair. Clearly the PA is only rated for one person and depending on your state laws and where you fish, adding a second person could get you in trouble. Having said that, I have an inflatable Sea Eagle kayak that has two removable inflatable seats. You can pick one up for about $50. It fits perfectly in the rear area of my PA12 facing backwards behind the Vantage seat. I strap the bungees over the bottom to hold it in place. My 10 year old son can sit comfortably on the back and fish.

I'm not sure how it would work for an adult, but you have a little more room back there in the PA14. The front deck of the PA has sturdy foam blocks in the hull to help support standing on the deck. The rear deck does not. On my first trip out with my PA12 I walked around the seat and stood on the rear deck to get into the rear 8" hatch. I will never do that again. I weigh about 240 pounds and I didn't like the way the rear felt like it was smashing down. I felt like I was going to crack the plastic. Clearly the rear deck is not supported like the front. I think for calm inland waters you could probably have an adult sit back there on the inflatable seat and be pretty comfortable. The Sea Eagle seat distributes the weight more evanly. I would avoid a seat that uses a frame and has small points of contact on the hull that could cause damage to your boat. I think 2 people on the PA can be done, but it's not something I would do everyday. Here is a link for the inflatable seat I use.
