My new 2015 PA 14 and Malone Microspore XT trailer was the best 65th Birthday gift ever. My problem is the PA sits high on the trailer. Making it a little difficult to unload and load. I spoke to the Tech support guys from malone with no resolve or suggestions. Any advice will be welcomed |

Pics of current set up would help. Do you want to add tool boxes or extra kayaks to your current setup |

I just purchased a Malone trailer too and have it setup for an outback. Here's a picture of the height Eric I assume is talking about. Eric I'm giving mine a try tomorrow and I'll see if the height becomes an issue with the outback. If I was to suggest anything I'd say remove the uprights for the cross supports and mount the cross supports on the frame of the trailer. You should be able to mount the cross members temp and give it a shot before doing a permanent idea. Another idea if I had to add without modifying the trailer is to add some style of wood ramps with glides that come off the rear cross pieces to an angle to ground. These would support the kayak itself and give you the added idea that they carry the weight so you don't as you pull the kayak to the upper supports. ![]() |

Thanks for your input. First thing how do I post a picture to my question? Yes the height front and back are the issues. |

If your PA "fits between the fenders", then you could remove the cross bars that elevate the kayak and install unistrut channel ( Home Depot) crosswise so 2 7/8" OD schedule 40 PVC pipes can be attached.....this is a common way to carry and store a PA-14. I have a Hobie Trailex trailer that I have modified as shown below and it works really well. I added a 600# capacity winch and used 11 degree couplers to accomplish the PVC angle for ease of launch and recovery. You can get an idea from the photo....there are other ways to solve the issue, but this is fairly simple and low cost......I carry my PA-14 with the "rudder deployed".....just remember to retract it prior to launching ![]() ![]() |

Remy (the guy in the pink helmet) helped me out with the same question. Thanks Remy ![]() I took off those 2 top bars. Bought 2x3" white PVC pipes (I did not want black because black gets hotter). smooth out the ends. 1 foot of 2x5 4 metal pipe clamps The 2x4 went on the back railing so the 3" PVC end would sit on it. If the 2x4 was not there the pipe would not provide enough height to keep the PA off of the trailer. I drilled holes about 6" apart and then used them to clamp the PVC on. I also threw string in there in case the clamp broke. Even if the camp does break the uprights on the Malone will keep the PA from falling off the side. The clamps allow the PVC to flex, don't tighten them until the PA is on the trailer. If you have a non-retractable tongue then fix an upright to secure the bow to it. If your tongue is retractable then you must secure the back and front with long tie downs (not on the handles). I use 2 more tie downs in the middle. I may put carpet on mine. With this setup the PA can also be launched right from the trailer. I really don't know why anyone would keep those 2 top bars on the trailer. If more cargo space is needed add a 2nd level like Remy. finny. PS. If your trailer does not appear square call the Malone guys and they will give you a trick to quickly true it up. |

How do you guys like the Malone MicroSport trailer? I'm thinking of ordering one for my Tandem Island. |

Well made Only problem The kayak sets up higher than other trailers. Unloading and loading can be a challenge . |

LanceH wrote: How do you guys like the Malone MicroSport trailer? I'm thinking of ordering one for my Tandem Island. I like the trailer. It doesn't bounce around if you hit a pot hole. Get the larger tires if you get on. I think they are the 12 or 13 inch, that's what I have. The weight of the trailer without a kayak on you'd be able to lift the tail end and move it. The overall time to put it together was 3 hours. I'm able to push it around easy with the kayak on it. I don't find a need for the front trailer support to hold the copplier up. I use a crate to keep the front up off the ground in the garage. As far as the overall height, I don't have any problems with that. I use it for a outback. I'm able to drag kayak off with bow on cross support and strap the wheels under it. When I get back in to load I just lift the bow and undo the straps. Lift the stern and slide on. The trailer height works great for me if I need to work on something. FYI, have the place you buy it from sign the title that comes with it. It will have to be signed to get registered. |

Thanks saltfisherman for the info. I'm also looking at getting the removable tongue so I can stand the trailer up in the back of my garage. Any experience with that? I live in a townhome so I don't have a lot of room or outdoor storage. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I gave it a bit of thought and realized it's an option I can always add on later. The biggest thing you'll find is squaring up the forward upright support for the kayak. Use a ruler and double check the measurement. Because it gets mounted on the Y of the front of the trailer you'll need to measure left/right and back/forward. FYI. If you buy one don't go crazy over torquing any of the bolt/nut set ups. You'll snap them. |
