Mirage Drive and Hernia,

Guys, I received my first Hobie days before my double Hernia operation. So I have never actually used the mirage drive before.

It was a double Inguinal Hernia I had, can anyone advise on where the strain is taken when using the mirage drive or someone that has Inguinal Hernia that can maybe advise me.

I am dying to get out in the PA14 but don't want to take any risks opening the wounds yet.

Regards,

Mike

There are several way that procedure can be implemented and your doctor would be the only one to give you the safe answer.Compare the peddling activity with walking up stairs or using a stair climber slowly as that is the closest he will be able to relate to.

Best of luck. Phil

It's a PA 14... they usually GIVE people hernias loading and unloading..., mirage drive would be the least strain... but I agree... talk to your Dr. I had a buddy had a hernia operation... BTW, he was a federal law enforcement officer in dam good shape... Dr. told him X number of weeks for recovery,... didn't happen... everybody is different... go with Dr.'s advice WITH caution..

I have had a hernia repair on each side, I don't think pedaling will bother you, it will be loading and unloading the beast that is going to bother you.

Should you or any other yakers have a hernia again, go to the Shouldice Hospital in Thornhill, Toronto Canada. You are in and out in 3 days and fully recovered. It is all they do and they are the best in the world-just saying'.

I had the double hernia operation a year before I got the PA14. I concur with the others....that the peddling has not not affected the hernia repairs, and that the risk may occur when loading and unloading. I have 42cm Wheelezz wheels just for that reason.....to make it easier to haul the kayak. Wish I known about the hospital in Thornhill Toronto Canada.....It took 30 days to recover from my hernia operation done in South Florida.

I am on for 7 weeks recovery still with a new sharp pain in one, no way can a double hernia be done and recovered in 3 days. It all depends on the size of hernia and if they can do keyhole or not. Mine was not keyhole but 'letterbox' due to my 'muscular' size 'cough cough'.

Plus that's a but far for me to pop over for an operation :-)
