I am looking to purchase a Pro Angler 14 and I primarily am a fly fisherman. Are there any recommendations for not tangling your fly line in the propulsion system? Has anyone added a stripping basket to the "H-BAR"? |

After mounting the H-Bar I found that the line falls right into the Mirage drive. Matt indicated that Hobie is going to sell a stripping basket but that was 2 years ago. I tried a few and settled on the one sold by North Fork Outdoors for pontoons boats. It is not perfect but it can be made to work. I also bought pontoons from Stand "n Fish(http: //standnfish.com. I am old and have poor balance so these do the trick. |

I find it easier to fly fish from a sitting position. I drape a coat or towel over the port side seat/rail area and strip into that. I'm right handed so fish to the left side of the boat. |

Interesting. I have a Water Master Raft and it has a mesh cover for stripping. I thought I would try that on the Hobie Pro Angler. Thank you for your response. |

A collapsible leaf bucket (about 40cm wide by 60cm high) balanced on the pedals and leaning against my knees works well when standing. If I'm fishing out of the back of the yak (again, standing) I put the leaf bucket on the seat. When I'm not using the bucket, it is stored under the seat and well out of the way. (The bucket has a zip-lock bag of moist sand in it for weight and a 2" thick piece of foam for the line to sit on without tangling.) Most of the time I'm like Tom though, choosing to fish whilst seated when I can. I just strip my line onto the deck between my legs on my PA14. Cheers, Graeme |
