Hey, Guys (and Gals): Does anyone have any experience with Marine Mat decking - specifically, the kit for the Hobie Pro Angler (see below URL)? It's roughly $100 cheaper then the comparable Sea Dek kit, but their website doesn't offer much info. Just curious. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hobie-Mirage-Pro-Angler-14-Complete-Mat-Kit-by-Marine-Mat-/191656208562?hash=item2c9f99a8b2 In advance, thanks! Terry 2015 Hobie PA 14 |

Not familiar with the Marine Mat products. Marine Mat is in Oldsmar, Florida. Doing some research, they recently got into the kayak deck padding arena. The eBay add says a 1-year warranty. Marine Mat's site says it offers a 3-year warranty on the padding. Not sure how thick it is, but it is probably similar in thickness to SeaDek (5mm for 2-color pads). I'm guessing it's made from the same EVA foam material. Pictures look like it's a decent kit. It covers a little differently that the SeaDek kit on the rear as it leaves those stainless screw heads exposed. I guess it's up to you unless someone else chimes in as to whether the quality is not good. I would clarify the 1-year warranty on the eBay ad. |

Thanks, Steve. I just got a reply from Marine Mat: The basic package for a Hobie PA 14 (no front hatch or rear deck coverage) in a two-tone scheme is $269.95 - which puts it right around the same price as a SeaDek kit. An extra $90 just for accent piping seems a bit much; if I bite on this, I'll probably just go with a single color. I'd welcome any other input folks may have. Terry 2015 Hobie PA 14 |

Terry 2015 Hobie PA 14 Terry, Keep in mind that the accent color is actually a bottom layer of the whole area sandwiched to the top layer. So that's where the extra cost is coming from. You take the $90 off for the extra layer used to make the accent color and add the material back in for the rear deck and the front hatch and you're probably right in line with SeaDek for a single color 5mm kit. Good luck with whichever direction you go. The padding does make a difference. ![]() Steve |

In the end, it appears to be "six of one, a half dozen of the other." Barring any significant price or quality differences, I may just go with SeaDek; they seem to have a bit more experience (and established customer base) in this arena. Thanks again! Terry |

They're the first people I've seen offering front hatch covers! I don't want/need that rear deck piece, but having all the pieces from the tankwell forward would be nice for the way I use my PA http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hobie-Mirage-Pr ... 2c9f9a7fef |
