New to the Hobie forum and just recently bought a 2016 PA12. So far, the two times I've taken it out I love it. I do have a question about the carts Hobie sells. How do the wheels on the Trax 2-30 rate when used on cement/ gravel or hard ground. I'm thinking the heavy duty cart will be a better fit for most of my uses - just not sure how well it would do in more sandy conditions. Any input/experienced issues will be appreciated. |

If you ever have to deal with soft sand... get the Trax 2-30. They work fine on hard surfaces, but the HD cart is terrible in soft sand. |

Any experience on the HobieTrax 2-30 on rough terrain? I have a PA 14 and would be using it very fully loaded whether going on sand or on a rocky trail. I carry a lot of gear. (Normally I trailer it into the water, but sometimes that isn't possible.) |

The plug in scupper carts are fine for when you aren't carrying much or don't mind getting wet by installing it while in the water. In the right circumstances it can be the fastest, most space efficient way to transport. But when the kayak is loaded (think multiple rods, batteries, fishfinder, PFD, cooler, crate, extra tackle trays, mirage drive, etc. I've found it next to impossible to secure everything enough to use the plug in cart without something falling out in the mud. The alternative is to take everything out before plugging in the cart. In both cases it would be faster to use a fold up cart. Again, it works fine. But it has limitations. My next cart probably won't be a scupper cart. |

Thanks. I need something to use right away as am going to need to launch from a beach tomorrow. I'll get the 2-30, and bring a separate cart to lug my gear (or maybe a lot of bungee cords to secure stuff. With a LiveWell, fish finder, and associated batteries, plus everything else, I'm guessing that adds about 60 pounds of weight. |
