I have read every trolling motor mounting post.. and loading up today, when I put the cart upside down thru the scupper holes behind the seat.. I thought hmmmm.

Took the wheels off, used a couple of U bolts, added a piece of treated 1/4 and voila.. an $10 trolling mount that works fine.

I put the frame in the scupper holes while it was on the trailer.. so the tops of the post touch the PVC bunks.. meaning they extend out the bottom about a 1/2 inch. I dropped the collars down to the deck and dropped it in.. mounted the motor and ready to go.

If the tubes can support the rear weight of the 14, they have to be strong enough to hold the motor.. which is why I let it extend out through the bottom instead of up inside the scupper tube.

So, for those of you that already have the Hobie wheels.. a very cheap, easy alternative. Since I carry the yak on a trailer, i really dont need the wheels very often, but if I do, easy enough to undo a couple of U bolts and put the wheels on (5 mins?)

Cheers!

Thanks,

The other not so obvious mod is the two extra PVC bunks on my cheapie harbor freight trailer. Using the unistrut clamps, I can carry my kayak easily in the middle (as shown in the pics) or when friends want to go with, I can easily spread the two center bunks right and left to carry two yaks ( will fit two Pro 14's, or my pro and a gheenoe, canoe, or just about anything that is 45-46 inches wide and has a slight V to the bottom.. Just adjust the spacing accordingly.)

Takes very little time to adjust and beats driving two trucks to go fishing with friends.. And keeps mine safe in the middle when going alone :D

Wow that is brilliant and yet so simple idea for a motor mount. No major building or mods needed, easy to remove and install quick too. Strong application.
