Post subject:  Front tub repair advice?

In putting my 2010 PA14 away for the season I discovered that there were 2 longitudinal transmural cracks, probably 12-15" each in the front tub. These are located near where the bottom rod tubes rub against the tub and probably reflect tub overloading combined with bumpy trailer rides. Anyway, I would like to close these up and reinforce without changing the fit in the front hatch space. Anybody do this yet? Any Do's and Don'ts?

It is ABS plastic, so something that works with that.

ABS glues exactly like pvc plumbing pipe. You can buy ABS adhesive at any plumbing supply or Home Depot etc. You should be able to call a local plastics company and buy some drop-off ABS from them, 1/16" would be adequate for this. anything thicker would probably be overkill and change you fit.
With a little luck you might be able to repair it with just the glue if you can get it inside the crack.

If you can't find anything locally. let me know and I'll send you some pieces. I am prototyping some kayak accessories from this right now in my shop and have some drop off but all I am sure I have is black. I'll be working some white 1/16 next week at latest.

Talk to your dealer also about a cracked part. ABS is really tough and I am surprised it has failed in that manner. We produce air splitters for race cars from it and have never had a failure.

You can get to me through my website at www.dallascnc.com or just post back here. I am not in the forum as often as I used to be but I'll check back soon.

Good luck, Phill Pittman

Thanks for the advice, Phill. Unfortunately, I could not find any plastics fabricating shops in the area to bother about getting a bit of scrap sheeting stock. I will check with Home Depot to see if this is the sort of thing that I can get locally. I sent you a message on your company website mail.
