I found a nice used PA 12 on craigslist and drove down from VA to Charlotte, NC to pick her up. I don't know much about the Mirage kayaks but I'm learning and the "search" feature is my new friend on this forum.

I'm sure there's nothing earthshattering here in my pics but thought I would share. I'm sure I'll have questions as I start this journey. I want to thank the members here for their hard work on documenting and posting on this forum. Sure helps a new person out.

I upgraded the kit with a NiteEze Carabiner so it could be disconnected and attached to your belt when you want to wade but keep the kayak from floating away. Pelican 1150 Dry Box with 10Ah Battery. Enough for several days of fishing.

One thing I see in your photos is the "masts" of the mirage drive are really bent and the fins are maybe 1" lower than they would be if the masts were not bent.
This will make the performance of the drive system below par and I would suggest trying to straighten out the masts or replacing them so the fins are up against the base of the mast housing.

Otherwise, you have a very nice ride!

Huge help! thank you for pointing this out. One of the reasons I posted all the pics is for some of you to maybe point out some issues that I may need to address.

Thank you,

Eric

Back to the Mirage Drive photo....after looking again at it....aside from the bent masts, I now see the foot straps are missing......If you have "big feet" or do extended trolling, I "stole shamelessly" from Roadrunner and made some "Heel straps" out of 1" wide NRS tie-down straps... Roadrunner used, I think neoprene, but I did not have that material handy....If you search for heel straps, you will find several postings on the topic.
It really makes it very nice, to just "rest the heels of your shoes" since there is no effort required to keep your feet on the pedals....as long as you are not a "gonzo peddler" who needs the straps to keep power applied on the "back stroke", then the heel straps are really good.

Hey Doc, that is an interesting idea (heel straps) I had not seen before. Thanks for posting it.

I found Roadrunners post that I "stole" his heel straps from.... viewtopic.php?f=82&t=39389&hilit=heel+straps and my version is in this post.

Thanks Doc, it never dawned on me about the foot straps let alone heel straps. Again, great help here.
