I'm looking at getting a dolly for my Pro Angler 17 and am trying to decide the best wheels for me. Are the beach wheels rugged enough to go over gravel? How easy is it to pull the narrower tuff tires through gravel or sand? The weight of the PA 17 is a concern. What are your recommendations or experiences with the tires and dollies. |

If any sand... the beach wheels are a must. They are durable enough for gravel and small rocks. |

The beach wheels are a must if your in anything soft. The PA is so heavy, normal wheels just sink in. A better option than the cart is the Boonedox Landing Gear. I'm sure they make them for the PA Tandem. The big headache with the cart is it requires you to tip your yak on its side to insert them when getting off the water. This can be a pain in the ass with all your gear in the yak. Additionally, when on the water, they use up your scupper holes, which could otherwise be used for a live well or other accessory. The Landing Gear doesn't use the scupper holes, doesn't require you to insert from under the yak, and it also has gear tracks built in. They sell the sand wheels as an option too. I went with the traditional cart wheels before discovery the Landing Gear. I just finish installing Boonedox two weeks ago and very happy about it after my first testing. I hope it does not break the kayak where I installed the crossbar. Having said that, I need to wait for 3 years to rate this product. PA tandem with added accessories like trolling and battery and cooler with ice and live well seems heavy for Boonedox. I think Hobie dolly is a better choice for heavy kayak like pa 17 |

yea...no way that thing could support my PA 14 loaded . After the 100 yard pull through sand , grass with sandy bottom and some softball size rocks in it that i have to make from the parking lot to the water where i fish, that thing would look more like a Taco'd stand... |

Well keeping in mind that I don't like to bring my wheels with me in any of my yaks. I generally get my vessel down to the launch and walk my wheels back to the truck which also gives me a chance to make sure I'm not forgetting anything or dropped something in tow. When I get back in I run a load of whatevers heavy to the truck while I grab the wheels(lightens the load and strain) and wheel it back. But I'm off topic, a lot of the tournament guys I fish with are against ALL the store bought carts out there stating that they really don't make a 'good one'. They all prefer to make their own to fit their own specific situation and is usually way cheaper. Now I love most of my gear to be branded and professional looking and really took me a while to get on board with these rink dink pvc little carts, but it wasn't long before I came around to liking the idea. Most of the pvc ones I've seen utilize the wheels and bearings of a previous cart that didn't work well for the user. (You can also buy them at Harbor Freight) Then they generally build a bunk style frame using pvc or conduit(similar to a lot of peoples pro angler trailer builds). What I like about this style build is there's no need to tip the boat on its side to load. The bunks allow the cart to basically stand on its own, slightly tilted of course but as soon as you lay the boat to them they will level out before any real weight gets on them. If you want to take the wheels with you, just don't glue the cart together and then break it down and store it. Just my 2 pennies. |
