Post subject: | Boa Steering Line Tension Kit |
I have a 2012 PA 12 and the "play" in my steering line annoys me. I've tightened the steering lines in the back but still have a lot of play. Will this kit solve the issue? Any videos out there on how to install this kit? Or how difficult is this to install? |

Yes, the BOA will solve your issue and no on a video.....the 2012 PA-12 had the first dual steering and w/o the BOA, it has the "slop" like my 2013 PA-14 had. A couple of years ago Hobie came out with the retro fit, BOA kit and I installed it in my PA-14.....I went to my Hobie dealer to see exactly where the BOA was mounted and using a mirror was able to see the internal hook up....today, with a smart phone, you can take some internal photos and this is much better. In short, on a scale of 1-10, I rated the installation a 8.5....only because I can't turn my head upside down and not get vertigo....so, a lot of "blind feeling" in connecting the block was eventually successful..... In the end, it was worth the trouble to install the rudder BOA. If you do go this route, remember the BOA tension will increase, if initially adjusted while the hull is cool and then tightens up as the hull warms up due to thermal expansion.......this will cause the rudder handle friction to increase and can make turning very hard/stiff...so slack the BOA a bit to reduce the tension on the line......release the BOA tension when done for the day and for storage too. |
