I found the following images on the web of a converted PA. I don't know who the individual is and was wondering if anyone here has attempted this mod and if so do you have any information to provide on how you did this. I have been contemplating doing this mod to mine for a while now and was excited to see someone already has accomplished this. I'm not interested in the sailing mast portion at all - just the stability in rough ocean waters with the added legroom of the PA. With that said, I'm looking at two rear crossbars to mount the akas. Although two ama looks real nice to me, the mounting of just one ama should accomplish my goal for the time being. Any thoughts on this? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Dont assume it will be stable in rough waters the hydrodynamics could be all screwed up PA hull is not designed to dive through waves like an Adventure hull. |

I think you may have seen my Kayak, I modified it to the extreme including the AI amas and sail. I am new to the hobie forums and just came across this post. I would enjoy sharing the idea and am glad at least someone seems interested. I have been meaning to do a proper video on the setup. I have been using it for a year or so and I am very happy with it.Although I may have overdone it I have no plans to stop modding my kayak.I will try to post a few pictures and if there's people interested I will try to do more. |

Any input that you can share would be greatly appreciated, if not by anyone else, definitely by me. ![]() |

I'm an A.I. owner and am fascinated by this mod (as I'm sure many others would be). Any more information and pictures would be great. Cheers, Mike. |

do you have a daggerboard? I tried to sail my AI without one (using my mirage drive in the down position) and it was not fun at all. |

Thanks Tulsa, my good friend posted those pictures a while ago and has been encouraging me to post more. I am still unable to figure out how to upload images directly to this forum and I do not have a link to them, please be patient Ill get to it soon.My daggerboard mod version one lasted 10 minutes but made a huge difference under sail, ust need a couple of longer screws and I think Ive got that one figured out.The project was a lot of fun and Id love to be involved in another. |

I love to see this mod with an outboard motor for offshore fishing. |

Little off topic, but You must have read my mind, I've been considering adding one, Ive been looking at the propane motors from Lehr. Most functional place for one is alongside just behind the seat, but I really would like to have it on the back. |

PA is wide so I wonder how you fitted the AI crossbar. Did you extend the crossbar? How did you bolt the crossbar to PA? |

No doubt about the crossbars, they have to be extended. The crossbars I used were the older pre 2008 style which have welded flanges for mounting and in the front of the PA the mounting flange lined up with a couple of factory bolts making it very easy to mount the bar after it was extended. The rear bar needed nore creativity to mount it as well as extension.I hired a local boat tower fabricator to do the work. |
