My PA 12 needs some work.... I noticed that when turning the steering knob moves more to the left than the right... as I look at the rudder it doesn't seem like it turns much. Also I added a second steering handle and they are a quarter of a turn off from one another. I'll have the right handle straight and the left will be of a off center. I pulled the handle and the spun the handle about for not. Any hobie gurus out the willing to help a brotha out. My main concern is getting my full turn radius. Thanks |

Hook1fred....What has been not mentioned is the year of your PA-12 and if it has the rudder Boa tensioner. Per Matt's information, making sure the rudder lines have been properly adjusted is to address use of the Rudder line tensioner.....aka "the Boa"......there still can be some "slop" in the rudder lines and this can/will change throughout the course of the day due to the temperature of the hull.....the hull will change dimensions that impacts the rudder line tension.....cooler in the am means "looser tension on the rudder lines" and hotter in the afternoon as the hull expands means the "lines tighten up". So, how do you deal with the rudder handle "slop" during the day is by either adding tension or relaxing tension to the rudder lines....this is where Hobie came out with a simple and elegant solution with the Boa. If your PA-12 is not equipped with the Boa tensioner, suggest ordering the kit and installing it. In 2013, my PA-14 did not have this feature, but I installed it in October 2014 once it became available......it makes a world of difference in taking the slop/hysteresis out of the dual steering handle/tillers so they act in unison. |
