Post subject:  Vertical storage PA12

Hello all,

I am about to buy a Hobie Pro Angler 12 next week. Since I do have limited space around my house and no actual garage, I am wondering if it is possible to store the PA12 vertically? The weight will be on the stern handle or if possible ditributed over de stern handle and the stern itself.
I was thinking of making a pully system onto a wall to lift the bow up to vertical, combined with a wheel-cart to carry and roll the stern towards the wall. I won't use the pully-system to keep the kayak hanging over time. The kayak will rest on the stern/handle.
Is the handle on it's own strong enough to carry the entire load? For years to come?

I have not found many posts on this item. The ones I found do not specifically tell how the kayak is stored vertically. I hope you can help me out :)

I few years back the admins here stated vertical storage on the stern was acceptable and even posted some pictures of hulls stored that way at the factory. Can't remember if there were any issue with long term storage that way.

Thanks SRAces.
Your thread gives a clue already :). But not 100% sure if vertical storage is possible with a fitted PA-12 and for a long time.

Anyone else with experience on this matter?

As I recall, the Hobie dealer in Dana Point, CA used to store kayaks standing. You might give him a call and see if he still does, and ask if there are any issues with any of the models. There may be limitations, for instance, on the PAs because of the front and rear carry handles. 8)
