Just last week I purchased a new 2018 PA 14 from a reputable dealer near where I live. It was reduced due to being a 2018 model, so I got a good deal on it. It is a new kayak; not a demo or blemish. So happy to bring it home last week and I got it put a few days ago on its first voyage. As I was spraying down the kayak when I got home, I opened the center hatch and removed my two tackle trays and the tray organizer to wipe down a little water that got inside during cleaning. This is when I noticed a 3” bubble that has me a bit concerned. The bubble only appears to be visible on the inside of the boat. I don’t notice any visible blemish on the underside of the hull. But I’m worried that this might be a defect that could lead to future issues. A little unsettling after dropping 3k on a kayak.Might not be an issue in the first year or two, but how about after that when the warranty is expedited? If this is an issue, would it be best to address it now? I contacted the dealer and was told this is fairly common on the PA kayaks but they also want me to be satisfied with my purchase. Thoughts? |

I have a 2018 PA14 and haven't had an issue such as you described. If I did see a hull issue, the boat would be going back to the dealer. Hobie is a good company and they will make sure you are satisfied with your PA. |

The bubble in the center hatch internal is pretty common and normal - it's caused from plastic dripping off the mold vent tube during the oven process. Most every kayak we make will have a slight buildup in the center hatch area. |

The inside of the hulls on just about any of my Hobie kayaks have an assortment of blemishes... bubbles, mounds, dimples, etc. The outside of the hulls are fine. What you see is simply one of the common interior anomalies from the roto-molding process. It is nothing to be concerned about. |

Thanks for the replies. I think my concerns have been resolved. I also inquired from the dealer where the boat was ourchased and their reply was exactly similar to what’s been mentioned in this thread. They even shared a few pictures from Hobie kayaks in their inventory that have similar anomalies. |
