Post subject:  Hobie pa 14 rudder line

Im new to hobies. I picked up a used 2015 pa 14 for pretty cheap. The rudder and skeg lines both had “laggy” responses. Looking at the internals, it looks like something is clearly wrong.

Im looking for a diagram for how the rudder and skeg lines should look. NOT the steering lines.

Any input would help. I will post pictures soon.

If you search the Pro Angler forum, there have been a few diagrams posted. Since you have a 2015, then it has the BOA adjustment on the left side for adjusting the tension/slop of the rudder lines. Basically the BOA tightens a line that runs between the 2 rudder handles through pulleys and across just behind the rectangular hatch.

Between getting the lines to the rear and your handles lined up and then adjusting the BOA tension, that should make it a lot easier for you. Make sure the lines is seating correctly on each of the pulleys especially in the back for smooth operation.

As far as the skeg, make sure nothing is in the way of the cord for raising and lowering the skeg. A bungee shock cord attache dot that line is what creates the spring like tension. Congrats on the PA!

I appreciate the reply. I actually double posted. Theres more information and pictures here

It does have the boa. Ive seen the steering diagram, which doesnt help me.

Ive seen this diagram
https://static.hobiecat.com/web_uploads ... 1543535077

Which is helpful, but it doesnt answer my main question. My main question is, where is this pulley supposed to be? Is it supposed to be free hanging in the air through tension? Or is it supposed to be secured somewhere with a nut and bolt?
The pulley shown in the picture is under the square hatch. Theres enough slack in the cord that i can pull the pulley out of the hatch. Ill post more pictures. Thanks in advance.

It looks like the pulley that attaches to the BOA......have you reached under to see if the BOA has a line and pulley attached to it?

Ill take more pictures when i get home. It looks like the boa/skeg side is as it should be. Ive been comparing that side to the rudder side. It looks like the pulley should be attached to a rope towards the bow near the rod holders?

The block attaches forward to another line that dead-ends to the front hatch - there's a fitting that it's tied to. You'll just need to re-attach with a piece of line.

I don't have a drawing, but the fitting is under the lip inside the forward hatch.
