Post subject:  Damaged 2020 PA 12 360
So I just recently received my new 2020 PA 12 360. I have been dreaming of this moment for YEARS! After receiving the kayak and opening it up I found that my hull had been damaged by a forklift. The front of the hull is pushed so far in I can't even fully close the front hatch. (Yes I had the kayak shipped to me because I live in Utah and I do not have a Hobie dealer within 4 hours of me) Needless to say, I am gutted and felt sick. So I immediately contacted the dealer I bought it from and they have told me that they will be in contact with Hobie to see what they can do. My question is if anyone has experienced this kind of thing with shipping and Hobie, and what are the possible outcomes? (IE I get sent a new hull, they replace the entire kayak or they try to offer me in-store credit etc.ect.) So far the dealer has been great to work with, but I just don't want to be stuck with a damaged kayak when I paid for a new one.

I feel like it was super close to coming through the hull. So I guess this also answers the question of how durable these kayaks really are!

That is a real bummer! FYI.. This will be between the dealer and shipping company. Hobie does not ship direct to consumers and is not responsible for damage when the dealer Re-ships the product. Nor can we work with a trucking company we did not contract. So, get back with the dealer on this.

As bad as this looks, I am wondering if your can salvage it to use while the process plays out on getting a replacement hull. Since Hobie is shut down for at least another month... we would be unable to get a hull out. Maybe the dealer has another?

In any case... we have seen very damaged hulls pop back using hot water to soften the plastic and some pressure from inside to try and form the hull back to it's original shape. Seem plastic has a "memory" of its shape when molded. Check this one out:
