I am both new to this forum as well as to Hobie Kayaks in general. I just picked up a used 2020 Hobie PA 14 and the BOA Rudder Tension needs to be replaced. I have ordered one, just wondering if anyone has done this and if they would pass along any tricks of the trade that could assist me? |

In 2014 I bought the BOA kit for my 2013 PA-14.....I went to my Hobie dealer and took a couple of photo's inside the hull of a new 2014 PA-14 for reference...... I no longer have the photo's, but as I recall, its very simple to connect. I recall removing a couple of foam block.....note the location for correct re-installation. Unscrew the BOA from the hull, install the new spectra line. |

I was able to connect the BOA on my 2020 PA 14 by removing the connected steering line from the right rudder control (underneath). This allowed for enough slack to simply pull the steering pulley back thru the BOA hole and loop around the BOA to make a knot. I was able then to reconnect the steering line and re-attach the new BOA. Due to the tension in the steering line, there was no way to re-connect without dis-connecting the steering line first. This was completed by trial and error as there are absolutely no YouTube videos or instructions online. Best way to learn is to research first then just jump in and do it. ![]() |
