Has anyone successfully added AKAs (outriggers) to a Hobie PA...basically combining one half of the outboard riggers of a Hobie Island to a Hobie Pro Angler? I'm looking to power this setup with a 2.5 HP Suzuki 4 cycle engine, for long range fishing\camping adventures on the Great Lakes. |

Not sure what adding amas to a Pro Angler would do for you. Might feel more stable on flat water, but it's going to roll like hell on any rougher water. A pure Tandem Island would seem, to me, to be what you want for those adventures. |

I have added outrigger stabilizers to mine. It allows this 70yo overweight guy to stand with a more stable deck. I love it. However, my stabilizers are adjustable from close to the hull out to a little over 2 Ft each side and up and down so I don’t have the problems Tom imagines. It’s made by Spring Creek. I love this product because it attaches with 4 screws total and is part of a system that also provides a great wheel transport and a great side motor mount using the same system. It’s a great company to deal with but they don’t market it as a system. The whole thing comes off by just pulling 2 pins and the stabilizers, wheels and motor mount are interchangeable and removable. I use them on all 3 of my yaks with 1 system and 3 brackets. When I go fishing, I put on the receiver with the wheels to get to the water. Then I put the wheels under the deck and put the stabilizers in adjusted high and close to the hull to travel to a fishing spot. I adjust the stabilizers out and down so I can stand and cast on a stable platform. This system is expensive but it’s the best I have found. |
