New 22' PA14, never seen the water yet and the skeg line has already worn a groove in the hull. Looks as though there was some sort of grommet there, If not there should be.
I can't be the only with this issue and I'm hoping I can get some sort of fix I can do to sure up the string grove and stop the wear from happening in the first place.
Dealer is over 3 hours away and if it's a fix I can handle I'd rather do that.

It’s completely normal for a rope to wear a groove in the yak? Are you sure this is normal? Doesn’t seem right on a $5000 yak

I too would be rather concerned if that was happening in my boat. Poor design, needs something done to prevent that.

The line smooths the path and it has not been a concern or a warranty problem I am told. There are tons of examples of moving parts that break-in on all products... or wear slightly when used.

Just looked at mine and it’s missing the grommet going into the hull so a groove formed there too. In my case though it’s keeping the skeg from dropping all the way. Was wondering why the skeg didn’t seem to help.

Is there a part# for the grommet? Can it be also added to the hole for the line going down to the skeg?

There is no grommet added here as I understand it. If the line is now restricted, get a photo to your dealer to file a claim... it can be chased by our warranty team. If documented damage is occurring, they could then ask engineering for a change or update. But based on previous comments by our tech/warranty manager... he is not seeing this. Documentation will help.

Just an update to this. It's been about two months of heavy use(~3 times a week for 4 to 8 hrs each) and besides the initial wear in groove being established it has not seen any more wear.
