Post subject:  2020 PA14 Steering Handle Issue

Went out today and noticed an issue with the steering handle on the left side of my PA. The whole handle and the riser move up and down about an inch. It is not an issue with the screw that goes down through the handle and the riser. I have had it loosen before and it is tight. It is the whole shaft that goes down through the h-rail and support that is moving up and down. I removed the handle, riser and the cover off the h-rail support but could not see any way to tighten the shaft so it doesn’t move up and down. Anyone else ever have this issue? The steering works fine, just concerned that loose is going to become apart while I am on the water.

The fact that the entire shaft is moving up and down suggests that there may be a loose or damaged connection within the steering mechanism. Here are some steps you can take to diagnose and potentially resolve the issue:
- Inspect the Connection Points
- Check Fasteners
- Lubrication
- Examine the Riser

Thanks. I am not real sure how I can inspect the connection point since it is in the hull and not near any of the access points, especially with the flotation blocks inside.
