I have a PA 14. At first I liked the rod tubes but now find that I seldom use them or only one side is usable because of other accessories getting in the way on the other side. I know you can get blank plates, but is there anything else that can be put there as a replacement? Pocket for anker? Other ideas? |

I too like you did not use the rod tubes and they were partially filled with water. After draining out the water for the umpteenth time, I used pool noodles cut about 3" long and stuffed into the open ends. This did a good job sealing the tubes from water, but allowed for future use of the rod tubes if needed. |

I made the mistake of inserting a rod that had tension in the line bending the tip over. Snapped the rod an inch below the tip. It was a very fast action rod that was super thin at the tip. But my primary reason is I do not find them convenient to use other than to store the rods for transport. Water has not been a problem for me, but I can see your solution as a slick way to deal with that situation. If I could find a box/pocket designed to fit that hole, I could see using one side for storing the anchor. |
