Hi, I've had my 360 drive for about 15 months, and on my most recent trip, I noticed something odd happening. The brace nut that allows you to adjust the drive gear "mesh" keeps loosening up out on the water. The symptom is that the gears start to skip when you try to steer the kayak. I reached down and tightened the brace nut (thumbscrew behind the clutch assembly), then everything seemed ok. I was fishing Lake Don Pedro in the Sierra foothills and doing a lot of turning and backing up, and on a 6-hour trip, I had to tighten the thumbscrew at least 6-8 times. Normally, I would make this adjustment once during a trip and be done. Any ideas what is going on? |

Problem solved. Hobie has a YouTube video on how to replace the belt drive, and near the end, they go over all the adjustments for the clutch and 360 drive. Here is the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1awjTkJ5kY The drive adjustments start at about the 25-minute mark. It ended up the Allen head screws holding the clutch assembly to the kayak were too loose. I made all the adjustments in the video and did a water test this morning. Works like brand new again. |
