That's very true. I never felt a draw to JetSkis. Too much noise and too much fuel (plus I'm now biased against them after having too many kayaking and fishing trips disrupted). I enjoy the silence of paddling or sailing. There's an elegance there that you just don't get with motorized craft.

Not to shamelessly self-promote, but I recently wrote a bit about the mentality of kayaking that I'm sure many can relate to: http://medium.com/kayaking-and-canoeing/49b8056309f7

Nice writeup! I too am a (now semi-retired) programer/consultant and a lifelong canoe/kayaker. The pleasure and freedom I feel on the water is very hard to put into words. Paddling, pedaling or sailing.

Your write-up nailed it. My only kayak experience is with my TI, but everything you said holds true for me (although I was an IT PM not developer  )

After reading the responses to dogslife original question, I'm fairly certain the statistics failed to capture that all hobie islanders have escaped from an insane asylum.

The young ladies will never use youtube again if they have seen us landing the beach.
The statistics is biased.
