I know that he had a lot of friends here on the forum and he loved his Hobiecat. unfortunately David passed away at his home this past weekend with a suspected heartattack. We dont have any details of the funeral arrangements as yet but when they get confirmed I'm happy to pass them along. Regards John Carnell |

Great bloke. We had a couple of good sails on Lake Macquarie and Cowan Creek together. He was one of the AI pioneers, always tinkering, great sense of humour, loved the gadgets and the toys, great photographer and friend. Dave was always the one behind the camera so it's hard to find a photo of him. If anyone has one, please share it. Here are 2 of our outing. He will be sadly missed. This was one of his first video's ........over 5 years ago. And here is Cows at the 2 minute mark. |

Auwe!! That hurts. Please relay our Hawaiian tribe's respects to David's family and friends. Gonna miss that old salt. He was always complimenting folks efforts here and he had a truly great sense of humor. (His cow avatar secretly sticking its tongue out at us summed that up well). ![]() A great photographer too. Cape Conran Stars Time Lapse (best viewed 1080p full screen) CGM left us with quite a few pearls, but my favorite: "Think I need to go hug my AI and tell it I need to get out more...." |

And his most enduring was "Remember......it didn't happen without pics." I still can't believe this has happened. I never asked his age, but he looked to me like he was in his early forties. |

I don't think we realise how important and valuable things like this forum can be. It's unfortunate that most of you, due to location, never met Cows in the flesh but you probably knew him better than that bloke over the road that you only ever wave to. We are all pretty 'like minded' here on this forum. We may have our AI's or TI's for different reasons, fishing, camping, sailing, all of the above, but generally I reckon we would all gravitate together at a party. I think what I'm trying to say is that even though I only met Cows a couple of times myself, I feel that after 6 or so years of forum banta, I knew him pretty well. I hope you did too. |

I just heard the sad news of Dave's passing. What a shock! I know he wanted to get out more this year and I was looking forward to doing more trips with him. He had a great sense of humor and was an accomplished photographer. His pics of our trips were always impressive. I couldn't make the Hobie Jervis Bay Big Day Out but I felt like I'd been there after seeing his pics with Point Perpendicular in the background. I also really liked his use and explanation of HDR images that he posted about. He will be sadly missed. |

Stringy – There is a photo somewhere of a few of us together having lunch at Cowan Creek. Do you remember who took the photo ? I’ve done a search but can’t find anything. It’s about the only close up I can remember of Dave. |

Russ, I've just got back from a week down the Snowy where we had very little phone/internet access. This is the only pic I could find of us having lunch, taken on our Refuge Bay trip. Dave (on the right), cooking his lunch with Chrisj and Russ. ![]() Climbing (on left) to get to the top of the waterfall: ![]() Dave (standing) admiring the view. Chris and Russ sitting. ![]() Dave in foreground with Russ: ![]() Dave farewelling us as he pedals all the way back to Bobbin Head. One reason he later added an outboard. ![]() Great memories ...very sad. |
